VIKA Maryland, LLC is seeking an experienced Office Project Surveyor to join our staff in the Germantown, Maryland office.

A successful candidate is required to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of boundary, topographic, record plats, legal descriptions and construction surveys. Candidate must have extensive experience with Civil 3D and Carlson software. Candidate must be able to perform in a fast paced environment with quick turnaround times, the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively, and the willingness to learn and take on new tasks. 5 to 7 years of office experience is recommended for this position.

SURVEY CREW CHIEF

VIKA MARYLAND, LLC – SURVEY CREW CHIEF

VIKA Maryland, LLC is seeking a Full-Time Survey Crew Chief with direct working knowledge in all aspects of survey projects, including field data collection with conventional, robotic, and GPS instruments, reconnaissance for horizontal and vertical control or property corner evidence, field stakeout of proposed site features for future construction, set up and monitoring for settlement, detail measurements and recordation for as-builts.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in land surveying with, at least three (3) years as a full-time Crew Chief.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics as it relates to surveying (Geometry)
  • Able operate, maintain, check and adjust instruments (Levels, Total Stations, Robotics, and GPS)
  • Prepare sketches of existing conditions
  • Oversee, train and be accountable for survey crew safety, actions and work production
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather and site conditions
  • Be available to work an extended schedule, including overtime
  • Valid Driver’s License with an excellent driving record
  • Have excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills

SURVEY INSTRUMENT OPERATOR

VIKA MARYLAND, LLC – SURVEY INSTRUMENT OPERATOR

VIKA Maryland, LLC is seeking a Survey Instrument Operator with a minimum of 3 years of experience in land surveying. This position reports to Survey Party Chief or Survey Field Coordinator.  Under direct supervision, assists Survey Party Chief in all aspects of survey projects, including field data collection reconnaissance for horizontal and vertical control or property corner evidence, field stakeout of proposed routes or future construction, and technical support as needed.  Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather, along with extended work schedules and likely overtime opportunities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 1) operate instruments and data collections systems (total stations, levels and other measuring devices) to acquire data for various types of surveys; 2) assist or performs processing of field measurements and related data, equipment maintenance and maintains supplies for crew vehicles; 3) care and working knowledge of total stations, GPS levels and robotic total station.  Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

VIKA Maryland, LLC is seeking a professional Land Planner (AICP) or Landscape Architect (RLA) to join our staff in the Germantown, Maryland office. The successful candidate will have a strong background in urban design and entitlement, as well as an ability to integrate landscape, civil, architectural, utility, and other aspects of site development into a coordinated site development design.  We are assuming this will entail a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in the production of a wide range of documents including: Concept Plans, Schematic Plans, Subdivision Plans, Site Plans, Natural Resource Inventories, and Forest Conservation Plans.  Urban design, sustainable planning and design, hardscape design, planting design, layout, fine-grading, and detailing experience is also desired.

Our office provides planning, urban design, landscape architecture, and engineering services to developers and municipalities in Maryland, focusing on Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, and we expect the successful candidate to have extensive experience in those jurisdictions. We strive to integrate the expertise of our various professions and other consultants and expect a well-rounded understanding of how the built environment is constructed.  Most of our work is infill, TOD, and urban redevelopment.  While our foundation is in entitlement work, our design portfolio is growing and includes a focus on placemaking, smart growth, and sustainable design principles; a desire to create environments people take ownership of and pride in is essential.  To help us continue this growth, the successful candidate must have the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and must have a fundamental understanding of computer programs standard within the industry, including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-up, and MS Office programs.  We also expect the qualified candidate to be skilled at designing and coordinating plan preparation and approval on tight deadlines with numerous team members and agencies.  These tasks will need to be done in parallel with the basic project management requirements of scheduling, budgeting, billing, client service, and team leadership with little oversight from senior management.  This position specifically entails taking on many of the Director’s current roles in daily coordination and management of key projects.

We are currently seeking a Project Engineer/Project Manager for our Engineering Department in our Germantown, MD office.

Responsibilities include: 1) ability to work independently on assignments; 2) manage complex to routine design tasks; 3) ability to design and prepare engineering documents for specific design components of a project including stormwater management design (ESD and structural solutions), sediment erosion control,  storm drain design and computations, WSSC water and sewer design, grade establishment plans, and maintenance of traffic plans; 4) ability to supervise, coordinate, and review the work of design engineers and technicians; and, 5) ability to coordinate efforts with client, agencies, and VIKA’s Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Surveying, and Planning Staff, as well as other consultants.

This position requires a BS/BA degree and be a Maryland Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), with a minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering.

The successful candidate will work on various projects, and will be part of a multi-disciplined design team which includes civil engineers, planners, landscape architects and cad designers, all under the supervision of an experienced professional engineer. The successful candidate will work closely with a project engineer assisting/mentoring you in the performance of tasks associated with the preparation of various engineering plan submissions, such as roadway design, erosion control and stormwater management design, site grading and layout design, storm drainage, water & sewer design, as well as site planning. Individual tasks might include drainage area map preparation, channel or pipe flow computations, runoff computations, storm computation routing, vertical curve design, sight distance analysis, sediment basin design, earthwork analysis, or cost estimating.
