VIKA Maryland, LLC was contracted to provide comprehensive engineering services for the development of the new Department of Housing and Community Development building located across the street from the Internal Revenue Service on Harkins Road in New Carrollton, a quarter mile from New Carrollton Metro Station. The office building is dedicated for the State of Maryland’s use and will be joined by two adjacent residential buildings. Features of this project will include:
- Office — 107,000 SF/four-story
- Multi-family residential — 556 units
- Retail — 90,000 SF
- Four-story parking garage.
The plan will create a pedestrian and bike friendly environment with interconnected sidewalks and roads to provide an integrated development for residents, employees, and patrons of this people-friendly urban design.
The Department of Housing and Community Development building is now completed. Phase 2 of the project is under construction, while Phase 3 is still in design. VIKA’s final engineering for Phase I included: environmental site design stormwater management facilities; storm drain; sediment control; and, water and sewer. VIKA is providing project management and coordination for the construction of the project.
