Metro Announces Choice for the Development Team for New North Bethesda Project.

Press Release
It was 15 years ago that the White Flint Sector Plan was created to dramatically increase density at this critical transit location.

As with all major planning efforts, implementation takes time (and rebranding as North Bethesda) and we are now entering a new phase.  With the realignment of Executive Boulevard and Old Georgetown Road completed, significant properties in the northwest area of the plan have redevelopment approved, built out, or under construction – Pike & Rose being the exemplar of infill, TOD transformation in Montgomery County.

While several projects also have been built or are underway on the east side of “The Pike,” an exciting new phase focused on the Metro properties at the Red Line Station is kicking off and VIKA Maryland is proud to be part of the team!  Metro has announced their choice of Hines to serve as the master developer of this UMD-anchored life sciences and mixed-use project in North Bethesda, spanning 13.9acres. This 2.5 million square-foot development aims to revitalize the site and reenergize the Sector Plan initiative.

With public funding and a keystone user – the Institute for Health Computing – a new urban grid of streets, several mixed-use buildings, open spaces, and a northern station entrance – will turn this vacant land into a hub for innovation and economic advancement. As County Executive Marc Elrich noted, “This project has been a long time coming, and I’m glad to see it moving forward with the selection of Hines as the master developer.”

VIKA Maryland is steeped in the area, having filed the first Sketch Plan in 2010 and currently working on over 15 projects in the area.  We are thrilled to be part of this opportunity and would like to congratulate all our teammates: Hines, Perkins-Eastman, nbbj, OvS, MRCE, and Clark Construction.
