VIKA Leads Coordinated Transformation and Growth Around Herndon Metro

Article
Currently working at key sites within the Herndon Metro Station Area, VIKA is bringing a consistent planning and engineering approach to each property, helping realize the Town of Herndon’s vision for a cohesive ‘Transit-Oriented Core’ around the metro stop that opened in 2022.

535, 544 and 575 Herndon Parkway and other surrounding properties are independently owned under-performing office parks located within the Herndon Metro Station Area, a zone designated for multi-modal transit-oriented growth in the town’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan. As these properties are being concurrently planned for redevelopment, VIKA is the common parter with the applicants and Town to implement the Herndon Transit-Oriented Core (HTOC) and Transit-Related Growth Area (TRG) planning goals into coordinated infrastructure, site design, and connectivity across multiple developments.

VIKA’s engineering, planning, survey, transportation, subsurface utility and dry utility engineering teams collaborate with individual developers to understand each site’s opportunities and create workable linkages and mixed-use spaces that seamlessly support and reinforce an integrated urban center. Planning and engineering of open spaces, pedestrian and bicycle circulation and networks, right-sizing parking, and street activation will draw residents, visitors and office workers to stop, shop, and dine throughout the day. With experience and understanding in working with multiple stakeholders to foster new communities, VIKA ensures each site contributes to cohesive and functional transit-oriented growth that brings the Town’s Comprehensive Plan to life.
