National Museum of African American History and Culture

Washington, DC
The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution. It encompasses approximately 665,000 sf over five acres on the National Mall.

VIKA provided detailed surveying services to identify the location and the extension of the column lines and windows throughout the structure and integrated them into the survey control and layout for multiple floors. VIKA also verified benchmark elevations and angles of steel at top of each level. The unique and complex design of this building, including five stories both above and below-grade and enveloping lattice work, meant the correct height and orientation according to design specifications were critical.
