Survey Instrument Operator

VIKA Maryland is seeking an experienced Survey Instrument Operator to join our Germantown, Maryland team.

VIKA Maryland, LLC is a leading Civil Engineering, Planning, Survey, and Landscape Architecture firm in the DC metro area. We are currently seeking an experienced Survey Instrument Operator to join our Germantown, Maryland team. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects involving all aspects of environmental planning for private- and public-sector clients.  If you are enthusiastic and driven to succeed, enjoy a challenge, would like to work on a team of talented professionals, and want to have the opportunity to work with the latest technologies in Surveying and Geomatics, then look no further.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following technical and practical abilities to effectively thrive in this position:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must have valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • 3 years’ experience in land surveying preferred
  • Working knowledge of total stations, GPS levels, and robotic total station
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in all types of weather, standing and walking for extended hours
  • Available to work overtime and reliably on time to work sites
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trigonometry and geometry necessary to complete surveys
  • Experience with MS Office and overall computer literacy
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Motivated to learn and advance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • This position will require carrying out the following assignments and roles within an interdisciplinary environment:
  • Operate instruments and data collections systems (total stations, levels and other measuring devices) to acquire data for various types of surveys
  • Assist or perform processing of field measurements and related data for reports and maps
  • Maintain survey equipment and supply maintenance for crew vehicles
  • Place survey monuments to establish legal boundaries including property lines, right-of-ways, easements, etc.
  • Field stakeouts for construction, test pits, etc.
  • Technical support, as needed
