Relocatable Parking Deck, Ronald Reagan National Airport

This customized demountable parking structure for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) will provide1,400 new parking spots at Ronald Reagan National Airport, addressing an immediate need for additional parking, while allowing for flexible future relocation, repurposing, or deconstruction. During its time of use, the demountable garage will have seamless access and functionality for users, including stair towers, elevators, security features, and integration with airport shuttle services.

An existing surface parking lot was identified as the site for the new 3-story customized demountable parking deck. Discovering the lot had undocumented below grade utilities that conflicted with the planned design, VIKA was brought in to provide rapid response locating services, including subsurface utility engineering, ground penetrating radar (GPR) and test holes. This critical information locating all types of existing utilities and establishing exact locations enabled our engineers to then quickly and safely develop alternatives to the original and separately developed design. This in-house coordination of surveying, locating and engineering allowed the project to remain on schedule as these site issues were identified and resolved.
