Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health

Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health is a full-service behavioral health center with selected supportive/human service programs. This 234,000-SF building, with a 700+ car parking structure, was designed to achieve a LEED Silver Certification and represents a joint venture between Fairfax County and INOVA Health Systems.

VIKA provided complete civil engineering and land surveying services to Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES), through the architect, for master planning and professional design services for the development of the County’s new health center. The design of the facility and adjacent garage promotes the environmentally responsible tenets of “green” development while also providing a therapeutic environment. The 4.6-acre site provides green spaces and park-like settings along the approaches to the 3 building entrances. Native and indigenous species of plants, planted along the winding pathways, reduce the need for irrigation. There are also shaded outdoor seating areas to accommodate individual and group therapy sessions. Rain gardens throughout the site, along with a stormwater management pond adjacent to the site
