Building on the established character of Phase 1, VIKA Maryland adds a signature neighborhood park and multiple amenity spaces, giving residents expanded opportunities for outdoor recreation and social engagement.
The new park at Josiah Henson Parkway and Towne Road is the highlight of the design. A variety of seating options offers spaces for quiet retreat or casual gatherings, while a shade structure with integrated swings brings both shaded comfort and a touch of playfulness. Together with the two existing parks in Phase 1, this new park creates a linear sequence of open spaces along Josiah Henson Parkway, connected by a shaded pedestrian sidewalk. This cohesive design not only establishes a continuous and visually engaging streetscape but also promotes an inviting and walkable community environment.
An additional design highlight is the promenade adjoining the park, designed to accommodate fire access while ensuring community safety. Thoughtful design interventions allow this functional space to double as a pedestrian-friendly extension of the park. Together with adjacent lawns, native plantings, and integrated seating, it creates a generous outdoor gathering area free from vehicular intrusion.
