Originally opened in 1923 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the former Ambassador Hotel is being renovated and revived as a new downtown destination, the Hotel Merrydelle. First opened as apartments, the property was converted to a hotel after 20 years of use, before declining into disrepair decades later. VIKA provided the surveying and subsurface utility engineering that will transform this historic building and site into a 109-room boutique hotel with associated signature restaurant, cocktail bar and event space. Adaptive re-use of the Ambassador Hotel site into the Hotel Merrydelle is part of Gateway Jax’s current eight-block downtown redevelopment project, Pearl Square.
